Poor Dave worked so hard to try to get the roof as covered as possible, but he couldn't completely finish it until the posts for the porch came in. They, of course, were delayed, and so he tried as best he could to cover up the exposed part of the roof. It worked great until the night we had a really hard rainstorm. Luckily, the part of the ceiling that is ruined is a piece we probably would have needed to replace anyway when we finish off the remodel.
Things are really rolling along on the remodel now. We have a roof (minus shingles, but at least with tar paper to keep it dry). We have walls. The doors and windows come in tomorrow morning, and then we will be able to knock the dividing wall out. That will be both strange and exciting. Murphy also dictated that this step would come right as the temperature is dropping, so I will also spend the weekend finding my winter sweaters!
I am constantly amazed at how much God has blessed us! Every step of this process has His hand in it. Dave was able to find the glass block for our bedroom at his office storage shed. No one had needed it in the last several years, so his boss said Dave could have it for free. He also found 29 bags of stucco we can use for free as well! To top it all off, one of Dave's clients decided to change his home to refrigerated air, and offered to give Dave his nearly-new air conditioner for free! It is amazing how God works out all the details when we let Him!
One of these days, I'll be able to blog about something other than the remodel, but right now it's kind of all-consuming. I am worn out from my students by the end of the day (read between the lines: the hardest class I have EVER had!), and after working on the house for a few hours, there's not much else I have the time or energy for. Right now I have a convenient excuse not to clean the house either, because everything will just be covered with sawdust or dirt again anyway. Now, if I could just find an excuse to keep me from doing laundry! Ideas, anyone?
