Last night, however, something did cause us to miss our favorite show:
Last night was Paige's preschool end of the year program, entitled "Jesus is our Rock, and We are His Starz". The kids were supposed to dress like rock stars, and they sang songs like "Jesus is My Rock and He Rolls My Blues Away" and "We Will Praise Him" (sung to the tune of We Will Rock You). It was the cutest thing ever, and if my blog didn't take so long to upload video, I would post a full length video of the songs. As it was, we hardly even noticed that we missed American Idol. We had our own little rock star to watch and cheer for!
Today was Garrett's Mother's Day brunch for his kindergarten class. The kids put on quite a show for us. The all dressed up in nice clothes, then escorted us to the room. (Literally escorted...Garrett insisted that I take his arm so he could lead me -what a gentleman!) Then they sang several songs and played a game called "Are You My Mother?" Their teacher had interviewed them and read the answers to the questions so we could guess which mother it was. Garrett took a few creative liberties with his answers, so I actually didn't recognize my own. Here are the results of my interview:
Mom's age: "39" (he and I will discuss this later)
Favorite color: "red" (correct, or maybe blue)
Favorite TV show: "American Idol" (see above post)
My mom always says : "Yes, like when she plays with us" (didn't think this was me, as I say 'no' about 800 times a day...nice to know he doesn't hear that)
Sometimes my mom: "colors with us."
My mom likes to: "shop. She buys cereal, milk, and watermelon." (Interesting combination!)
-----and here's the one that convinced me this was not my child's interview:
My mom makes: "apple pie. It's my favorite!" (As far as I can recall, I have never in my life made apple pie, nor has Garrett even tasted any. Perhaps this is a wish instead of reality??)
My mom looks prettiest when: "she dresses up for church. She wears dresses with sparkles on them."
The best thing about my mom is: "she loves me" (awwww)
So, anyone know any good apple pie recipes? Apparently I need to brush up on my baking, because my son is inventing an imaginary June Cleaver mother who bakes apple pie for him! All in all, however, it was a fantastic brunch, and all us moms left a little misty-eyed.
Here's a sample of the sweetness:
